The Buddha and the Ba’al Shem Tov: Two Paths to Transformation

Taught by Rabbi Burt Jacobson

In this three-session mini-course, Rabbi Burt will introduce students to the core teachings of two profound spiritual teachers, Gautama Buddha and Israel Ba’al Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism. The class will focus on the ways in which these teachers worked with their disciples to enable them to deal with suffering and to transform their lives.

The class will also learn and practice a form of Jewish meditation transmitted by Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and developed by Rabbi Burt, aimed at facilitating practitioners’ direct experience of the divine.

The readings for classes 2 and 3 come from Burt’s manuscript, There is Only One Love: The Ba’al Shem Tov in the Modern Era. Register by November 23rd to receive a copy at the first class.
