SUMMARY:IN PERSON: The Whole Megilla - Purim Dinner\, Megillah Reading\, and Bash
DESCRIPTION:This year we’re holding grief\, tension\, and discomfort alongside the deep potential of Purim\, with the destruction of Gaza raging on\, most hostages still in captivity\, and the suffering of Palestinians and Israelis present in every moment.\n\nRebbe Nachman taught:\n\n\nThe rule is that a person has to be very determined and put all their strength into finding joy at all times. For human nature is to draw itself to gloom and depression on account of life’s vicissitudes and misfortunes. And every human being is filled with suffering. Therefore\, a person has to exercise great effort in tying themself to being happy at all times\, and to bring themself to joy in any way they can—even with silliness. (Likutei Moharan\, Part 2\, 24:2)\n\n\n\nWe’ll join again with our friends at Urban Adamah\, Base Bay and Chochmat HaLev for Purim this year. On this night of turning everything upside down\, maybe something will open up that can lead us toward justice\, peace\, safety and healing.\n\n\n\nRegister here through the Urban Adamah registration portal.\n\n\nFESTIVAL SCHEDULE\n\n5:30 – 6:30 PM  |  Family Purim Celebration & Puppet Show [Register Separately] \n6:30 – 7:30 PM  |  Community Dinner featuring Shushan’s finest dishes \n7:30 – 8:30 PM  |  Celebratory Megillah Reading (Full Hebrew + Creative Interpretation) \n8:30 – 11:00 PM  |  Dance Party with Kiki Lipsett from The Shushan Queens and Sneaky T and the Big Wigs\, Mystical Tea Lounge Experience with music\, heart connections\, and magical delights. \nThis is a costume party! And in the spirit of awareness and respect\, we encourage people to dress in culturally appropriate costumes. Not confident in assessing whether or not your costume is culturally appropriate and respectful? Here’s an article to get you thinking. Thank you in advance for being mindful\, and we hope you enjoy this year’s celebration. Chag Sameach! \n\n\nThis event is held at Urban Adamah and will adhere to the Urban Adamah COVID policy.

SUMMARY:IN PERSON: Women in Yiddish Song with Lebedik Ensemble and Yiddish Dance Party with Veretski Pass
DESCRIPTION:Join an international trio of leading klezmer musicians and local legends Veretski Pass for an evening of music and a community dance. The evening will begin with a concert featuring Berlin-based violinist Craig Judelman\, Latvian-American Accordionist Ilya Shneyveys and Cantor and composer Sarah Myerson celebrating women’s contributions to the rich and diverse legacy of Yiddish song and paying homage to those who paved the way for the flourishing of singers and new Yiddish song we are witnessing today. Highlighting the challenges of traditional life as well as the changes to the roles and opportunities available to women in traditional Eastern European Jewish culture\, this program features leading performers from the European and American klezmer scene presenting songs by and about Jewish women from the diverse canon of Yiddish song. \nAfter years touring with artists from Michael Alpert to the Klezmatics’ Lorin Sklamberg\, Alicia Svigals and Frank London\, these artists represent the new vanguard of leadership at festivals and workshops across the globe. They will be joined by Berkeley’s own Veretski Pass for some songs and then clear the chairs and Ms. Myerson will lead the community in traditional Yiddish dancing – no experience necessary\, space will be made for people of all abilities and needs to be included as we celebrate the embodied practice of Ashkenazi Jews and its intersection with their European neighbors. \nThis concert is made possible by the generous support of the Firehouse Fund and co-presented by Klez California\, Kehilla Community Synagogue\, Seattle Yiddish Fest and the ‘Joy of Jewish Music and Dance’ workshop series at the JCC Eastbay. \nThis event will be held indoors. \nRegister here through Urban Adamah registration portal.
