Sparks of Light Tour to Israel and the West Bank
September 12 – 24, 2016
For further info, email: Peacebuilderstour@gmail.comThis tour is focused on meeting Israeli and Palestinian peace builders who hold each people with respect for their humanity, needs and rights. We will meet organizations using a variety (and sometimes, a combination) of approaches. These include education, dialog, political action, sports, medicine, interfaith alliances and living together. We will also be introduced to various cultures such as the Druze, Bedouin, Bahai, Jewish Israeli and Palestinian. There will be tours of Old City Jerusalem, Old Jaffa, Haifa and Bethlehem. Tour guides will be both Palestinian and Israeli. Periodically, we will hold group discussions among the tour participants, led by trained, in-country, facilitators. MEJDI, the tour company, is a joint Palestinian/Israeli venture and was selected by National Geographic to arrange their tours. The local tour originators and coordinators are Judy Gussmann (Jewish) and Seema Dajani (Palestinian). They have experience as co-facilitators in Jewish/Israeli-Palestinian dialog and started a Palestinian-German-Jewish circle, now in its fifth year. Additionally, they have done presentations about various aspects of the Palestinian-Jewsh/Israeli relationships. Last Spring, they went on an exploratory trip to interact with peace building groups. They were amazed and impressed with the work being done and the extraordinary human beings doing it. Many of those are included in this tour, along with some others.

The ultimate purpose of the trip is to expose people to the organizations that bring light to such a darkly conflicted place, with the possibility that tour members will be moved to support one/some of them and help them become larger and stronger. In such troubled times, this feels more urgent than ever.
