Kehilla Homeless Action Committee Presents a Sukkot Speakout in the Kehilla Sukkah

October 21 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Sukkot is a meditation on the transience and impermanence of shelter and life, a collective memory of the time our people were homeless and struggling in the face of the unknown.

To make this holiday and theme meaningful to us here and now, we have convened a panel of unhoused and recently housed Oakland activists, along with our own Talya Husbands-Hankin. Come learn about two recent Supreme Court decisions that are radically altering the policies of the Bay Area governments, the real-time effects of that on our unhoused neighbors, and what we can do to help.

The courtyard will open at 5:15. At 5:30 we’ll begin an hour-long program, opening with the Sukkot ritual led by Alex Madonik, followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Naomi Stein. Then we’ll break bread together in a potluck dinner.

Please bring:

  • A dish to share

And at least one (more encouraged!) of the following

  • A pair of new socks
  • A container of personal wipes
  • A chai ($18) to donate via Venmo or in cash
