Join us and celebrate an evening of Jewish-themed poetry with two outstanding poets, Melissa Stein and Marcia Falk who will read on Saturday, October 24 at 7p.m. in the Fireside Room of Kehilla Community Synagogue, 1300 Grand Avenue, Piedmont, California, (510) 547-2424) Both poets will present new work followed by discussion. Music and refreshments will be available. There is a suggested donation of ten dollars. No one will be turned away.
Marcia Falk has taught Hebrew and English literature, Jewish studies, Bible, and creative writing at Stanford, the State University of New York at Binghamton, and the Claremont Colleges. Marcia’s newest book, from Brandeis University Press / HBI Series on Jewish Women, is The Days Between: Blessings, Poems, and Directions of the Heart for the Jewish High Holiday Season. Many of Marcia’s blessings are contained in the Kehilla machzor.
Melissa Stein’s poetry collection Rough Honey won the 2010 APR/Honickman First Book Prize, selected by Mark Doty, and was published by American Poetry Review in association with Copper Canyon Press. Her poems have appeared in The Southern Review, New England Review, Best New Poets 2009, Harvard Review, North American Review, and many other journals and anthologies.
