We are thrilled you are registering for the Kehilla Annual Summer Retreat 2023!

ABOUT THE RETREAT
We look forward to joining together at Lake Temescal’s North Picnic Area on Saturday, July 8 for Shabbat Beneath the Redwoods from 10am to 4:45pm! We are also excited to again be featuring catering from Jesse Bloom’s Sacred Kitchen company for Saturday’s lunch. A variety of afternoon play shops (a.k.a. workshops with a fun twist) are offered. 

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. Walk-ins are invited and welcome to join! We have VERY limited lunch spots available, so please be sure to bring your own food and folding chair. Shabbat begins at 10am, lunch at 12:15pm, and playshops in the afternoon.

Where is Lake Temescal?
Just 10 minutes from Kehilla, Lake Temescal is located in the upper Rockridge district of Oakland on BroadwayCheck out the location on Google Maps. We are gathering at North Picnic Area on the northwest side of Lake Temescal. Our past retreat location, Bort Meadow, is closed this year due to weather damage.

Low Cost / Student Option – $36

Youth
Kehilla youth (under age 12) – $25
Non-member youth – $35
No one turned away for lack of funds – please mail elle@kehillasynagogue.org for info on financial assistance.

PLAYSHOPS
Our playshop offerings are growing everyday! Many are family-friendly. Stay tuned for more details and offerings to come!

  • Circle Singing with Hazzan Shulamit
  • Rhythm and Drumming with Debbie Fier – instruments provided or bring your own drum!
  • Turning From Othering to Belonging – Role-play and discussion to explore ways to promote and support belonging and allyship at Kehilla. Facilitated by members of the Community Educators Group.
  • Making Good Trouble with Rabbi David – Report Back from Israel/Palestine
  • Nature Walk with Leanne Grossman
  • Torn Paper College with Teri Gruenwald
  • Ways to Get Involved in Kehilla – Presentations by Kehilla’s amazing committees, with a Q&A about what we are up and ways to join us.

CHILDCARE
From 10am – 12:15pm, during Shabbat services, we will have childcare for children ages 2-6. Please note we can only provide childcare to folks who register their children in advance! Register your child as soon as you can so we can have a complete picture of how many little ones to expect. 🙂

YOUTH PROGRAMS
From 10am – 12:15pm, during Shabbat services, we will have 
Youth Programming for children ages 7-12.

Additionally, our afternoon playshops will feature family-friendly options. The retreat spot is also adjacent to the playground at Lake Temescal.

COVID PROTOCOLS
This event is fully outdoors and masking is optional. Please bring a mask in order to be responsive to fellow participants who prefer masking in close proximity.

ACCESSIBILITY
Lake Temescal has fully accessible paved pathways, bathrooms and is close to the parking lot which has disabled-only parking. If you have concerns about attending the retreat, we want to hear them.
