Urban Adamah, Chochmat HaLev, and Kehilla Community Synagogue are proud to present: Purim Like It’s 5780!
The 14th of Adar is so much more than just the “Jewish Halloween.” Peel off those masks and you’ll find a holiday with as many facets as there are hamantaschen fillings. On this night we’ll celebrate the brave people who stood up to tyranny, while savoring each word of Megillat Esther and losing ourselves in its cast of characters.
To kick off the evening, children and families will enjoy our famous Purim party puppet show with Jen Miriam and Alon Altman. We will then experience a theatrical reading of the megillah, which is the scroll that tells the story of Purim. And when our voices are hoarse and grogger-hands tired from drowning out the H-word (Haman), we’ll dance ourselves silly into the night with a live concert from SHAMATi.
Come see how scrolls aren’t just for Instagram and hear the story of a queen who saved her kingdom before Elsa made it cool. And don’t be a square and miss out on everyone’s favorite triangle-shaped treats!
This is a costume party, y’all! And in the spirit of awareness and respect, we encourage people to dress in culturally appropriate costumes. Not confident in assessing whether or not your costume is culturally appropriate and respectful? Here’s an article to get you thinking. Thank you in advance for being mindful and we hope you enjoy this year’s celebration.
Tickets are $15 online in advance and $20 at the door. No one turned away for lack of funds.
To honor the Purim tradition of giving gifts to those in need, we ask those who are able to bring a non-perishable food item that we will distribute at our weekly Free Farm Stand.
