Adopt-a-Family with Shalom Bayit for Hanukkah!

Posted by on Dec 10, 2020 in Announcements | No Comments

One of Shalom Bayit’s most heartwarming programs is Adopt-A-Family which gives compassionate individuals and community groups an opportunity to anonymously “adopt” our clients during Chanukah. Sponsors provide basic necessities and other gifts to survivors of domestic abuse and their children. To find safety, many survivors had to flee their homes and leave valued possessions behind. Adopt-A-Family provides tangible assistance that provides a sense of security, community and hope during uncertain times. “You brought light and caring to our family,” writes one recipient. “Thank you for making our first Chanukah on our own positive and filled with warmth!”

Sponsors choose the presents they provide based on wish lists that the families prepare. In addition, each family shares one Wish Upon a Star item…that is, a higher end “dream gift” that they would love to have if we can find it, used. So, please – search your garages, closets and other storage areas to see if you can donate any of the objects listed below that are in excellent condition. You’re also welcome to buy them from local second-hand stores and other sellers of pre-owned goods. The * indicates that we’re looking for more than one.

Please email counseling@shalom-bayit.org with questions. Thank you in advance for participating in this powerful and meaningful act of tzedakah! Miracles do happen at Shalom Bayit and many Wish Upon a Star items have been found through the support of community members like you.
