Richard Miles is producing an all-day seminar called Daraja La Mafanikio (Bridge to Success). This free event will be held at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Center in downtown Dar es Salaam and offers young Tanzanians guidance on how to find problems and develop solutions, and how to monetize those solutions and turn them into viable small businesses.

In addition to presentations from business experts, there will be a panel made up of ordinary Tanzanian entrepreneurs who have started and run successful businesses … a young man who grew up in the rural area and whose only opportunity was farming, a single mom who wanted to spend more time with her infant son and started a business in her bedroom, a brilliant young techie who has developed a mobile application promoted by the 2 largest telcos in the country, a young woman with a vision to have ice cream and gelato shoppes all over Dar es Salaam, a group of young men with an idea for turning waste into high quality organic fertilizer, and more; all with inspiring stories.

Youth unemployment has been called a “ticking time bomb” in Africa as millions of young people every year enter a stagnant job market with few opportunities. Entrepreneurship offers young people a method of generating income and wealth, and this kind of practical training highlighted by real examples is greatly needed.
