ONLINE – Shavuot Shabbat Service with Focus on the UnHoused

Saturday, May 30 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join us for Shavuot Shabbat Service with Focus on the UnHoused with Rabbi David and Hazzan Shulamit, with congregant teaching by Talya Husbands-Hankin. This Shabbat falls on Shavuot, the holiday of the ingathering of the first fruits and the holiday celebrating the receiving of the Torah. It is also, by coincidence, Housing Sabbath weekend. So we will observe both in one service. For Shavuot, Hazzan Shulamit will be leading Hallel, a musical worship as part of our service. We will also have Yizkor (occurs only 4 times a year), the service remembering those who have passed away in the years past. And for Housing Shabbat, we will have a teaching from one of the great local advocates for and supporters of those who are unhoused, Kehilla activist Talya Husbands-Hankin. A great tie-in for Housing Shabbat is from the traditional Torah reading for Shavuot – Deuteronomy 15:7-9, which requires us to share our resources with the most vulnerable.
