Any Kehilla-connected folks who identify as white, we’d love to have you, whether you’ve ever been to these meetings before or not! We meet every month to work on decentering white supremacy at Kehilla and work to make Kehilla more welcoming to people of color – we share feelings, build skills, and take actions. This is part of the Belonging & Allyship Initiative.
If at all possible, we encourage you to do the homework. It’s optional, but we think you’ll get more out of the meetings if you watch the videos/read the articles – no time like this present moment!
Suggested Homework: (this should take you about an hour and 15 minutes…)
1.Black America in Crisis: Red Table Talk Video (35 min) –with Angela Davis, Tamika Mallory, Jada Pickett Smith & Willow Smith. https://www.facebook.com/
Kehilla staffer Dee Ward sent this recommendation to us, saying “it really hit home for me and I thought it would be a good share for this group – a discussion on how they all feel as black women…from different generations…and how we can have better conversations with our sister “allies”…and work toward being in community with one another.”
Disclaimer: The 1st minute shows the video of George Floyd’s murder, so be prepared as you watch.
2. On On Being – an interview with Resmaa Menakem and Robin DiAngelo.
This is the transcript, and you can also hear the audio file on the website.
3. Dancing between Light and Shadow – Increasing Awareness of the Impact of Covid 19 Disparities on Jews of Color by Yavilah McCoy,
Yavilah is the trainer who will be working with us soon at Kehilla!
