An event every week that begins at 3:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until Sunday, March 21, 2021
How can we repair harm? What if our communal infrastructure is built with stolen material? We will wrestle with these questions with the rabbis of the Talmud, in conversation with the BLM platform, the vision of the Sogorea Te Land Trust, and each other.
In this 3-week beit midrash, you’ll learn ancient Jewish texts in their original language, explore Talmud study as a spiritual practice, and co-create a supportive, queer-normative community of study. All you need to begin is your alef-bet (Hebrew alphabet).
*Orientation: Sunday February 28, 3-4:30pm
Time: 3-5:30 pm
Sunday, March 7
Sunday, March 14
Sunday, March 21
Registration deadline: by the end of Thursday, Feb. 25th
*Orientation is required for people who haven’t learned before with 700 Benches, SVARA, or another SVARA-style Beit Midrash before. Returning students are welcome at the February 28th session, but are not required to attend.
Folks who are POC, involved in the Kehilla Belonging and Allyship: Racial Justice Initiative, and/or involved in Jews On Ohlone Land will be prioritized for enrollment if the class fills to capacity.
If you are not yet involved, check them out!
We recommend having a Jastrow dictionary with you. If you don’t have one, you can use the online Jastrow dictionary. We will not be needing a Frank dictionary.
